October, 2009 - KOESTER AMERICAN CORP. ANNOUNCES NAME CHANGE.

KOESTER American Corp is changing its name spelling from “KOESTER” to “KOSTER”.  Our original name spelling comes from our founder in Germany; Johann Kóster for whom the overall company is named.  The true German spelling of this name is with the ó or umlaut which is not generally understood by most Americans.  To market our products in the U.S. we thought it would be more simple to spell our name without the umlaut to avoid any confusion, hence the “oe” which is the sound that the umlaut; ó represents.  So, for many years there have been two ways to spell our name: “Koester” and “Kóster”; phonetic and German.  This has still caused some confusion over the years as to what our name really is and the fact that the two spellings are, in essence, the same word.  As we continue to grow in the vapor reduction and waterproofing markets, we wish to have consistency in our brand-name so now we are “KOSTER”.    When it comes to water vapor and waterproofing, the only name you need to remember is “KOSTER”.
